Crazy for Autumn Collages

I was going through our craft supplies and saw a bunch of fall themed supplies left from other projects and after Thanksgiving we will be switching to Christmas projects so I wanted to use some of them up. So we made autumn collages. By the way I googled the word collage just to make sure I was spelling it like the art project and not college the school! I swear I was smart before I had two boys and no longer sleep.

We used cardboard, foam fall shapes, beans, pasta, craft sticks, orange paper shreds that were packaging from a Halloween decoration, leaf confetti, silk leaves, yarn, white glue and glitter glue.

The boys loved making those collages and asked to make more so I pulled out some holiday food pictures I cut from a magazine and we glued those onto sheets of card stock.

 The boys like picking out the food they liked and gluing them on. There was a fight over who got the picture of pumpkin pie thou! We like pie.

Thanksgiving Bath Fun

I like to surprise the kids with themed baths from time to time. Craft foam shapes, ice cubes and recycled containers are some of the kids favorite bath toys. When wet craft foam will stick on the tub walls and you can let it dry after and use for another project. I saw the idea to use craft foam in the bathtub on filth wizardry awhile ago and we have made craft foam murals in the bathtub many times. This week I made a Thanksgiving themed bath. Sorry I'm not sure why my kids look like blurs.

 I used foam turkeys, leaves and pumpkins from the dollar area at Target. I also made red heart shaped ice cubes I figured the hearts were for sharing thanksgiving with family. I added some bubble bath too

Thanksgiving Parade

I'm always trying to incorporate more music and active play into our day. Well the boys are very good at making plenty of noise and are very active on their own I'm just trying to harness this energy into some fun and educational activities. So when E and I went to library story time and they had a pretend Thanksgiving parade with instruments I thought "Hey we could do this at home!" E was also excited to share this activity with big brother. So I brought some instruments outside and we went way in the back yard so we wouldn't disturb anyone and had a parade.

 Oh and if you are wondering why L's hat is backwards - He insisted he wear it that way. We had lots of fun with our thanksgiving parade and will probably be having one again soon!

Cornucopia Snack Mix

 My mom asked the boys and I to make the favors for Thanksgiving this year so we came up with making cornucopia snack mix. The main thing that makes it cornucopia snack mix is the addition of bugles which look like mini cornucopias (to me anyways).

You can tailor this mix to what your family likes and/or adapt for allergies. You don't have to be exact with your measurements either. We didn't really measure but I'm putting the approximate amounts as a guide.

Cornucopia Snack Mix

2 cups Chex (we used Honey Nut)
2 cups Bugles corn snacks
1 cup M&M's candy
1 cup craisins
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup cashews
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds

We started by sorting out the fall colored M&M's orange, yellow and brown. You don't have to do this but I couldn't find any fall M&M's left in the store and the kids like sorting. I saved the other colors in the freezer for Christmas cookies. Then add the remaining ingredients and stir.

 Notice how L has blue lips he's one of the only people I know who can make a huge mess while eating an M&M!

Thanksgiving Countdown: Make Corn Muffins

 Our Thanksgiving countdown activity was making corn muffins. We used a Jiffy mix to make it easy. My boys love making corn muffins.

Thanksgiving Countdown: Native American Headbands

Today's Thanksgiving Countdown project is making Native American headbands. Since I couldn't find any colorful feathers at the store I was in I added a recycled twist and cut feather shapes out of magazines.

We used longer strips of construction paper folded in half lengthwise, feathers cut from magazines, feathers, markers, crayons, bingo dabbers, tape and glue.

Decorate the long paper strip on one side- this will be the headband.

Glue the feathers in between the folded paper.

Add extra feathers and decorations as desired. Let dry then attach in a circle with tape. You may need to add more paper to make the headband longer to fit your child's head.
