Fake Snow Day

I had planned a lot of snow themed activities this week seeing that it is January and we live in Western NY we normally have no shortage of snow this time of year. However today was almost 50 degrees F and sunny we spent a lot of time outside enjoying this unseasonably nice weather. We took a walk around some nearby water falls and then we cam home for some fake snow fun.
We played with a bin of fake snow. This was left from my niece and nephews snow themed birthday party my sister in law ordered the fake snow online you add water to it and it feels snow like. You can google search fake snow.
We added a bunch of arctic animals and had fun playing with it.

Then I told the boys we were going to make snowmen with side walk chalk

I Showed them how to draw a snowman outline and they helped me fill it in and and drew some of their own snowmen. E is making a baby snowman.
Then we collected sticks and other decorations for our snow people.
Our dog thought we were getting sticks for her!
Adding the arms.
Rocks and mulch for the face.
I thought he was finished...

But L said he needed legs to be a silly snowman!

Snowman Family!

We also collected some pine cones and sticks and gave them a touch of fake snow with white paint and glitter glue.

  1. Our weather is crazy here too!! My 5 year old is going nuts waiting for more snow, so I'm having to improvise with other "winter" activities. Love the snowmen chalk drawings!

  2. Great ideas! We made snow play dough (white homemade play dough with glitter) so my daughter could make "tracks" in the snow with her toys and make a snowman. I know here in New England we have been waiting for some snow as well. Thank you for sharing at Sharing Saturday!
