We read one of our favorite winter books yesterday
The Mitten by Jan Brett. Then we made up our own mitten story while playing with our easy
light table.
I drew mittens using Sharpie Markers on Ziploc bags I wanted to make the mittens translucent and be able to put animals inside which is why I used a Ziploc bag.
I put the mittens and some Epsom salt for snow on the light table and the boys collected some animals to go in the mittens.
They loved filling their mittens with animals and then pretending one of the animals sneezed and tossing all the animals out.
We also made a mitten craft.
I cut a mitten shape out of construction paper and taped clear contact paper sticky side up to the outline.
The boys wanted to make snow white mittens like the mitten in the story. They cut pieces of white yarn and stuck them to the contact paper.
Finished mitten.
I hung the mittens up in our window and added a heart L cut out from some leftover crayon melted paper from our
Melted Crayon Christmas trees.
Ooooh! I'm so excited to try this! That pile of salt is more snow than my kids usually see all winter, and they will LOVE playing with animals in it! Thank you so much for linking up to Teach Me Tuesday -- I hope we see you again next week!

I've done The Mitten with groups of students and had everyone squeeze into a giant "mitten" (2 sleeping bags zipped together), but I've honestly never thought of doing it with toy animals and a ziplock bag. And the light table makes it that much more exciting. Can't wait to try this with my boys! Pinning it!
