Countdown to Thanksgiving

Yesterday I was trying to organize a bunch of ideas for making an activity advent calendar for December. Then it dawned on my that we haven't done any Thanksgiving projects yet. So I decided to make a quick Thanksgiving Turkey Countdown.
I cut out a large circle from brown construction paper and added a red head, orange beak and feet, and sequin eyes.
I cut the feathers out of scrap construction paper an numbered them 1-12. I included an activity for Thanksgiving day too.

For each numbered feather I wrote our activity on the back and wrote it on my calendar so I can be sure to have everything ready. I taped the feathers to the turkey.

I took some inspiration for the activities from some ideas I'd seen on pinterest .I will be posting the projects we do as we do them but here are some ideas:
  • Read a Thanksgiving story
  • Watch a Thanksgiving movie and pop popcorn
  • Go to the store and pick out cans to donate to a local food bank
  • Make playdough turkeys.
  • Make corn muffins
  • Make Thanksgiving hostess gifts
  • Make a hand print turkey. Found some cute ones: .freepreschoolcrafts.com, ecemadeeasy.com
  • Make Native American headbands
  • Make Pumpkin Scones
  • Make a paper plate teepee
  • Make a Thankful tree
  • Play Thanksgiving bingo
  • Make butter: We have done this every year on thanksgiving since I was little
  • Make Turkey Hats
